Sonia Gandhi hospitalised in New York, cervical cancer suspected

New Delhi, August 4, 2011: The All India Congress Committee President, United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi was admitted in to the hospital in New York. The latest media reports saying that, she was affected from cervical cancer and has gone under surgery. An NRI from Andhra Pradesh and famous oncologist Nori Datattreyadu is said to be the doctor operating on her.
According to the reports Priyanka Gandhi-daughter of Sonia Gandhi, and a few other family members are said to be with Sonia in New York itself, while Rahul Gandhi-son of Sonia Gandhi, has returned to New Delhi to attend the monsoon sessions of The Parliament. The doctors have told that she is quite out of danger and she has to rest for a few weeks, the media reports said.
AICC spokesperson Janaradhana Dviwedi today made a statement on Sonia’s health condition. Dviwedi told that Sonia Gandhi is completely safe and she needs to rest for 3 weeks according to what the doctors have conveyed to him.
Apart from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the main opposition leaders L.K. Advani, the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi also wished Sonia Gandhi to get well soon. Modi conveyed his message through his micro-blogging site Twitter.
It was surprise among political circles in the national capital, as the strongest leader of the ruling party was suffering with a major illness and party has kept the information secret till she got operated.
Sonia Gandhi, rated as one of the world’s most power women’s is leading the UPA for the second consequent term.
